Prior to and during my MA, I worked for seven years doing professional writing & document design for a small copy company in Honolulu, Hawai‘i. Because two of the owners had experience as paralegals for a large firm in downtown Honolulu, our clientele was primarily law firms, and the company also offered paralegal services. While I started the job spending hours on end digitizing legal documents and medical records, I soon went on to become the company’s first Design Consultant, doing all of the graphic design and layout work, corresponding via email with clients, and designing the company’s first website.
Below is a small selection of my design work. Through this position I also have experience doing paralegal work, i.e., writing deposition summaries, composing exhibit indexes, digitizing documents, doing legal research, and tracking legislative bills. During my MA, I also spent a year working as a writing tutor for upper-level Civil and Environmental Engineering classes. I designed the logo and website for GradHacker, a blog about graduate life, by and for graduate students, now featured on Inside Higher Ed.
